Speaking of 2007 Lists…

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Toronto’s The Film Buff (my second favorite video store in the world) just released its annual year end review, The Buff. The owner, Scott Worsley offers up reviews ranging from corrosively funny to fawning and his painstakingly compiled statistics such as how many rolls of toilet paper were stolen from the store and how much money he made off rentals of “The Secret”. Hilarious. It can be found here. (pdf document.)

Graham’s 2007 Favorites…

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Here are some movies, etc. that I’ve liked over the past year or so…

No Country for Old Men (Coen, 2007)

The Holy Mountain (Jodorowsky, 1973)

The Face of Another (Teshigahara, 1966)

Big Train (TV)

The Seventh Continent (Haneke, 1989)

William Eggleston in the Real World (Almereyda, 2005)

Contacts (TV)

True Stories (Byrne, 1986)

Sans Soleil (Chris Marker, 1983)

The Power of Nightmares Vol. 3 (Curtis, 2004)

A bit unorthodox but, the trailer for There will Be Blood (Anderson, due December 2007) is tremendous.

And, this year’s winners in the Sublime Trash category are (drumroll/farting noise, please)… Sam Peckenpah’s The Osterman Weekend and Brian DePalma’s The Fury.

delroyI couldn’t help thinking that while I watched (and hated myself for loving) the 2000 version of Gone in Sixty Seconds. Michael Bay’s best film, even though he didn’t make it.
